The song all-star was written by Greg Camp for the American rock band Smash Mouth for their second studio album. Smash Mouth’s All-stars became popular after the countless appearances of the track in films, most notably the ‘’Mystery Men’’ and Dreamworks’ ‘’Shrek’’. Smash Mouth’s song ranked as one of the best songs in its year of production, in 1999.
However, its popularity has been renewed in recent times due to its use as an internet meme in 2010 and its continuous streaming from 2017 to 2020 in the United States. Smash Mouth’s song All-star has an F# major key with a 104 tempo per minute. Smash Mouth’s song has been popular before the movie Shrek but it however enhanced its popularism. Below are the lyrics to Smash Mouth’s All-star
Somebody once told me the world is gonna roll me
I ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed
She was looking kind of dumb with her finger and her thumb
In the shape of an “L” on her forehead
Well the years start coming and they don’t stop coming
Fed to the rules and I hit the ground running
Didn’t make sense not to live for fun
Your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb
So much to do, so much to see
So what’s wrong with taking the back streets?
You’ll never know if you don’t go
You’ll never shine if you don’t glow
Hey now, you’re an all-star, get your game on, go play
Hey now, you’re a rock star, get the show on, get paid
And all that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars break the mold
It’s a cool place and they say it gets colder
You’re bundled up now, wait ’til you get older
But the meteor men beg to differ
Judging by the hole in the satellite picture
The ice we skate is getting pretty thin
The water’s getting warm so you might as well swim
My world’s on fire, how about yours?
That’s the way I like it and I’ll never get bored
Hey now, you’re an all-star, get your game on, go play
Hey now, you’re a rock star, get the show on, get paid
All that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars break the mold
Hey now, you’re an all-star, get your game on, go play
Hey now, you’re a rock star, get the show, on get paid
And all that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars
Somebody once asked if I could spare some change for gas?
I need to get myself away from this place
I said, “Yup” what a concept
I could use a little fuel myself
And we could all use a little change
Well, the years start coming and they don’t stop coming
Fed to the rules and I hit the ground running
Didn’t make sense not to live for fun
Your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb
So much to do, so much to see
So what’s wrong with taking the back streets?
You’ll never know if you don’t go (go!)
You’ll never shine if you don’t glow
Hey now, you’re an all-star, get your game on, go play
Hey now, you’re a rock star, get the show on, get paid
And all that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars break the mold
And all that glitters is gold
Only shooting stars break the mold
The recorder is a musical instrument that has been around for centuries. The main types of recorder include the sopranino, the soprano, the tenor, the alto, and the bass. The soprano and tenor recorder use fingerings similar to the flute, the sopranino, alto, and bass recorders use almost similar fingerings with the modern clarinet. Its sheet music also follow the major scale.
Some recorders come in a piece while some are made up of three parts, the head joint, the body, and the foot. In case you want to conjoin these three pieces together, the hole in the head joint should be lined straight with the holes in the body. The holes in the foot should however remain slightly out of the line to allow the little finger to cover it comfortably.
Make a C-shape with both hands when holding the recorder. The left hand should certainly be placed above the right hand with the fingers wrapped, covering the holes and the thumb at the back hole. Ensure to keep a correct posture when playing the recorder. Some of the correct postures for playing the recorder include:
The music uses the notes D, C, B, A, G, E, D(low D). The recorder notes or sheet music for all-star may be a little bit complicated but since the melody is very well known, the trouble will be less tasking. The explanation of the notes in sheet music in words is:
The D sheet music goes – middle finger on the second hole, no thumb
The C sheet music goes – thumb on the back, middle finger on the second hole
The B sheet music goes – thumb on the back, pointer finger on the first hole
The A sheet music goes – thumb on the back, 1st, and 2nd fingers
The G sheet music goes – thumb on the back, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd fingers
The E sheet music goes – thumb on the back, 1st, 2nd, 3rd finger on the right hand, Left-hand 4 and 5
The D(actually a low D) sheet music goes – thumb on the back, right hand 1, 2, 3, left-hand, 4, 5, 6
The sheet music of the recorder notes go thus:
G D B A G C B A G
D B A G E D G A E
G B G G B D C B A G B G E G E D
B D B E B D B E B D C B A G A G E
B G E G G E G B
B D C B A G A G
The sheet music recorder notes for the lyrics can also go:
Hey now, you’re an all star
Get your game on, go play
Hey now, you’re a rock star
Get the show on, get paid
Only a good music reader can play the recorder, so to play the recorder, you must be able to read music on sheet music. All notes are either one of the letters of the musical alphabet, the A B C D E F or G, as it can be seen above in the sheet music of Smash Mouth’s all-star notes.
The first sound on the recorder is mostly produced easily, but is it the right sound? You can start by using your lips to form a seal around the mouthpiece, keep an open throat and blow the air (but not too hard) into the recorder which will give a loud squeal. Practice for consistency, learn the sheet music, and begin your tonguing.
To play Smash Mouth’s all-star song on a recorder, the first thing you do is to review the notes on the sheet music separately in several different patterns. The notes can then be put together step by step after you must have played each note in isolation. You can as well isolate the leaps in any suitable form for instance;
For a good start, you can rhythmically hit the recorder as you count the rhythm of the syllables in the music notes. Next, you hold the recorder and finger the notes on the sheet music carefully while saying the letters. Do this till your hands get accustomed to it, after, you can now attempt to play section A slowly and continuously till you sense an improvement. You can now put it together with the B section once you realize you can move forward. Put the letter names and the fingering to the rhythm but be sure to break them apart first. This will only give you very little trouble but gets you accustomed.
The first part can be the harder part. With the above steps said and done, you can now play all the verses of sections A and B sheet music together but start slow to avoid mistakes. The above practice can then be used for steps three and four, the C and the D sections of the sheet music.
Do this carefully to the whole song and add the chorus together with it. It takes lots of practice to get there as all of these can not just be learned at once. You can now learn fingering the whole song altogether following the sheet music of Smash Mouth’s All-star. It could be a bit tasking but once broken down into sections could be less difficult.
For the success of this task, it is essential as said earlier to practice properly and consistently or mostly listen to All-stars by Smash Mouth and more songs. More practice will enhance more improvement but always check for recommendations and use practice charts, sheet music, and logs.
