The Jamaican Driver's Guide

The motor vehicle is essentially a part of everyone's normal life. Even if you do not own a car, it is quite likely that you travel quite often in one, or at any rate, in public motor vehicles.

We have certainly become a road-minded nation, and realize how much our daily lives are influenced by the motor vehicle. There is still good reason to believe that the majority of this country's population would like to own a car and no doubt we will continue to see an increase in the number of cars in use on our Jamaican roads.

Many people who have never yet driven a car, are likely to become motorists in the near future. If we are to keep our roads safe and to a large extent accident-free, it is essential for the potential motorist to learn as much as possible beforehand about driving and the manner in which a motor vehicle functions. Further, it becomes necessary for all road users to be aware of safe practices on our roadways.

The main purpose of this 'Guide' is to explain, as clearly as possible, all that a learner should know about a car and its use on our roads. It is hoped that it will be an invaluable preparation for the course of practical instruction that every novice must go through in order to qualify for a driver's licence, and thereafter be a safe and accident-free motorist.

The revised edition of The Jamaican Driver's Guide is completely updated and contains images of the rhomboid road signs commonly seen on roadways across the island in recent years. The additional material in the first section contains important advice to all road users - drivers, cyclists, motorcyclists, pedestrians and children in particular. The book therefore becomes essential reading for everyone.
